Week 5 RSS Feed- ASCEville Engineering Just for Fun

Making education fun can be a difficult task for some teachers. Making sure the ‘fun’ is standards based and assists the curriculum objectives can be a daunting task. In the review of ASCEville Engineering Just for Fun (2013), the topic of civil engineering and it’s affect on history are discussed through utilizing a game called ASCEville. Here students Kindergarten through 12th grade are able to apply the topics of keeping a civilization safe during a natural disaster, how they make cities or other aspects of civil engineering.  Resources and lessons are available for teachers to utilize prior to incorporating ASCEville into the classroom.

  1. Interesting article. I agree that making education fun can be hard and difficult. Giving students a realist task like keeping civilization safe during a natural disaster is a great way to teach skills and knowledge and how it can be incorporated into the real world. As students get older they consistently ask, “How or when am I going to use this in the real world,” and this gives them great examples.
