Making education fun can be a difficult task for some
teachers. Making sure the ‘fun’ is standards based and assists the curriculum
objectives can be a daunting task. In the review of ASCEville Engineering Just for Fun
(2013), the topic of civil engineering and it’s affect on history are discussed
through utilizing a game called ASCEville. Here students Kindergarten through
12th grade are able to apply the topics of keeping a civilization
safe during a natural disaster, how they make cities or other aspects of civil
engineering. Resources and lessons are
available for teachers to utilize prior to incorporating ASCEville into the
classroom.

Interesting article. I agree that making education fun can be hard and difficult. Giving students a realist task like keeping civilization safe during a natural disaster is a great way to teach skills and knowledge and how it can be incorporated into the real world. As students get older they consistently ask, “How or when am I going to use this in the real world,” and this gives them great examples.
