In a creative way, the article, “Who
should get Financial Aid?” (2013) combines the various aspects of financial
aid issues. Within this introductory article, there includes five various and
combined articles that help students, parents, and teachers read through the
analysis of financial aid and it’s issues surrounding it. I believe the best part of articles for
parents and students is the portion on “Creative Solutions to Pay for College”
(Armstrong, L. and Hamilton, E., 2013). This part helps with basic
understanding of what is available for financial aid options. Additionally, all
of the debates come with additional reading topics for those who want more information.
For many parents the realistic aspect of paying for college is going to placed
on the student, so helping our young adults understand financial aid with
parental support is critical. These discussion and debate topics can help with
starting this critical conversation in families sending off a college student.

Hi Ken,
ReplyDeleteVery interesting article! I work in the community college setting so this article really hits home for me. I think each of the debaters makes a good point about the current flaws in the financial aid system. I think this could be good information to share with my students as well.
Thanks for sharing,
-Sam
Ken, good article on financial aid. Most students do not know the ins and outs of financial aid, and I am sure their parents do not know either. There is a lot of different ways to receive financial aid, both public and private sources. College continues to get more expensive and the need for aid much greater. It can be a very complicated process and one that takes some learning. Its kind of like the health care act, a good idea in many ways, but its so big, no one understands it and it needs to be revamped. Of course anything involving money is never easy.
ReplyDeleteVery cool article! Teaching at the high school level, I can't even begin to tell you how many students that I talk to that have absolutely no clue how the financial aid system works. This will be a great resource to share the next time I have a student in need of some guidance in this area. Thanks for sharing.
